At Legacy Hooves, meaningful interactions between rescued horses and people create opportunities for trust, reflection, and growth. Our programs are built on a foundation of rescue, rehabilitation, and connection — where both horses and people are given the time and space to move forward.
Our Programs
Each program is designed to support a different part of the journey — for both horses and the people they serve. Legacy Hooves operates through three core programs supporting both horses and people.

Providing second chances for at-risk horses through structured care, stabilization, and trust-building.

Creating meaningful opportunities for individuals and families to build confidence, awareness, and connection through interaction with horses.

The Legacy Hooves Approach
Legacy Hooves programs are built on the same approach used to rehabilitate and care for the horses in our herd.
This approach emphasizes patience, trust-building, gradual progress, and creating a safe, supportive environment — allowing both horses and people to move forward at their own pace.
Our work begins with the rescue and stabilization of vulnerable horses — including ungentled mustangs, older working horses, and animals that require time, patience, and compassionate handling to rebuild trust.
As horses gain confidence and stability, some may participate in carefully guided experiences where individuals can interact with them in a calm and respectful environment.
These experiences support both the continued development of the horse and the personal growth of participants, creating meaningful partnerships built on trust over time.
How the Model Works

Rescue & Rehabilitation Program
Legacy Hooves provides a structured pathway for at-risk horses — from rescue and stabilization to trust-building and long-term purpose.
This work makes all connection experiences possible by ensuring horses are cared for, safe, and supported as they rebuild trust and confidence.
Many of the horses accepted into Legacy Hooves are those others are unable or unwilling to take, including ungentled mustangs, older working horses, and horses requiring care after neglect or abandonment.
Each horse receives individualized support, including:
intake evaluation and stabilization
nutritional and veterinary care
gradual handling and trust-building
placement into appropriate partnership roles or lifelong sanctuary care when needed
This program ensures that every horse is given the time, care, and stability needed to rebuild trust and rediscover purpose.
Legacy Hooves is committed to each horse’s long-term well-being. While some horses go on to participate in meaningful partnership experiences, others remain part of the sanctuary herd — where they are given lifelong care, safety, and the freedom to simply be, at their own pace.
Connection Experiences Program
The Connection Experiences Program provides structured opportunities for individuals and families to engage with rescued horses in a calm, supportive, and meaningful environment.
Through guided interaction, participants build awareness, confidence, and connection while also supporting the continued development and trust of the horses.

Barn Connection Experiences
Barn Connection experiences provide a calm, supportive environment where participants can spend time around the horses while learning about their behavior, communication, and care.
Activities may include:
observing the herd
learning how horses communicate
assisting with simple care routines
grooming and calm interaction
These experiences allow participants to slow down, reflect, and build awareness while developing a meaningful connection with the horses.
Trust-Building Experiences
Trust-building experiences focus on supporting horses as they continue to develop positive, safe interactions with people.
Participants may engage in guided activities that emphasize:
patience and presence
awareness of body language
calm communication
respect for the horse’s pace
These interactions help both horses and participants build trust over time, allowing horses to grow more comfortable and confident around humans.
Inclusive & Adaptive Experiences
Legacy Hooves welcomes individuals and families from a wide variety of backgrounds and life experiences.
Programs may be adapted for:

Experiences are intentionally small and supportive to ensure that each participant can engage comfortably and safely.
Community Outreach Program
Legacy Hooves extends its mission beyond the physical property through digital and community-based outreach designed to reach individuals wherever they are.
Still Standing – Digital Encouragement Initiative
Still Standing is a trauma-informed digital encouragement program developed by Legacy Hooves Equine Center.
Its purpose is to reach individuals experiencing trauma, anxiety, and life challenges — especially those who may not yet be ready or able to access traditional forms of support.
Through simple, consistent, and non-clinical content delivered via social media and digital platforms, Still Standing offers grounding, validation, and manageable next steps to help individuals regulate, feel seen, and continue moving forward.
The program is intentionally designed to meet people where they are — often in moments of isolation — providing calm, honest encouragement without pressure, diagnosis, or expectation.
As individuals begin to stabilize and build trust, Still Standing serves as a gateway to deeper connection, gently inviting participants into additional support opportunities, including in-person experiences at Legacy Hooves.

Horses have a unique ability to reflect human emotions and create space for quiet reflection.

Program Availability
To ensure the safety and well-being of both participants and horses, programs are offered in small groups or scheduled experiences.
Visits to the property are available through scheduled program participation, approved volunteer opportunities, or special events.
